Q&A with the Stylists at Canvas Styling

I have had the pleasure this week to be a guest speaker on Kimberly and Megan podcast at Canvas Stylists. Check them out at www.canvasstyling.com they are good people to know! Here is a break down of some questions and makeup tips that they were curious to know and thought their listeners might want to hear the insight as well.

How did you first get into working with make up?
-My mom says I started using makeup when I was five because if I couldn’t get my hands on her makeup I would use cool-aid for blush and lips.

- I can remember my parents finally letting me wear makeup though when I was in the 7th grade so I was about twelve in the late 80’s. I think that was a very expressive time and Madonna was one of my idol’s. Laura Mericer and Sharon Gault was her makeup artist at that time and I really admired their work.

What is your favorite thing about what you do?
- Making women look and feel confident and beautiful.

- Seeing that spark in their eyes is what makes me love what I do.

- I have had women start to cry because they didn’t know they could look or feel that beautiful.

- I have clients who are going through chemo who lost their eyebrows and their skin has become lack luster. Just being able to show them how use makeup to help them fill like themselves again is very rewarding.

The top 3 makeup items every woman needs in her work bag?
 For one definitely lip stick:

- A little brighter color lip instantly brightens your face

- Gives you confidence

- If you don’t have time to do your eyes a brighter color will give you a more polished look with out looking over done.

- In a bind you can always dab of your lip color and blend it on your cheeks if you are looking a little washed out and you know you have an event to go to after work.

- Right now favorites for lips are Tom Ford, that you can find at Neiman Marcus, or Saks, Lip Tar’s by Obessive Compulsive, and Bite Beauty that you can find at Saphora

Second a good translucent powder. It will set your makeup so it stays on your skin longer through out the day with out making your skin looking cakey or heavy.

-But also it cuts the shine on your t-zone mid-day or into evening. Too many times I see women layering foundation powder through the day touching up until their skin looks too unnatural that is why I prefer translucent powder.

A little brightening pen for the under eyes never hurt anyone.
- It’s like a cup of coffee that gives your under eyes a little perk to look more awake.

- Let’s face it with a busy work week and not always enough sleep we can always use a little concealing.

- YSL’s Touche Éclat is a best seller and is a great way to revitalize your under eyes mid-day.

- Apply it like a V shape under your eye. It’s a Trish McEvoy tip she calls the triangle of light that helps hide dark circles.
